Lewis Baltz is considered one of the most important photographers of the second half of the 20th century. He spent his entire career using photography as a tool for research and knowledge, studying and representing the landscape as a desolated yet urbanised space that he portrayed mostly in black and white.
Edited by Fundación Mapfre with a preface by Urs Stahel, this volume has been published on the occasion of the first exhibition dedicated to Baltz’s photography in Spain. The collection of images documents not only his dedication to work but, above all, the importance of the composition: geometrical shapes and an accurate balance between filled and empty spaces had been constant elements of his raw and realistic glimpse.
