MUTINA PRESENTS THREE NEW COLLECTIONS BY RONAN BOUROULLEC AND THE EXHIBITION COPPIE DI FATTO E ALTRO BY NATHALIE DU PASQUIER

On the occasion of the International Exhibition of Ceramic Tile, Mutina will host a special event at its Fiorano Modenese headquarters, celebrating two leading figures in contemporary design and art: Ronan Bouroullec, with the project Variations on Ceramics, and Nathalie Du Pasquier, with the exhibition Coppie di Fatto e Altro. The exhibition opens on 22 September 2025 at Spazio Mutina and will be accessible to the public from 29 September.

Variations on Ceramics traces the evolution of a profound and long-standing dialogue between Ronan Bouroullec and Mutina. Built over time together with Massimo Orsini—the company’s CEO—this relationship is grounded in a hared vision: to transform ceramics into an expressive language, interweaving research, beauty, poetry, and material. The event will unveil three new collections – Aria, Adagio Outdoor, and Motivo – which continue to explore decorative surfaces as a form of architectural installation, capable of generating three-dimensionality, vibration, and a dialogue with light.

Aria and Adagio Outdoor enrich the section dedicated to “WALL INSTALLATIONS”, first developed in 2024 with the launch of Adagio. Their innovation lies not only in form but also in function, expanding the expressive possibilities of ceramics. Each project becomes an opportunity to forge a new language, defined by absence and lightness, broadening the aesthetic and functional horizons of walls and surfaces.

Aria is designed to create visual scores across the wall. As its name suggests, it introduces a new way of inhabiting emptiness, allowing the wall to breathe through an open, flexible grid that lends space depth and rhythm. The collection is composed of shaped slats joined together by small circular elements and is available in five shades: White, Chalk, Earth, Arctic, and Olive.

“The idea behind Aria is not to cover, but to create a rhythm—a drawing, a composition. It’s a musical score designed specifically for ceramics.” (Ronan Bouroullec)

Adagio Outdoor is an extension of Adagio, conceived for exterior use. Not merely decorative, it functions as a structural system. Thanks to its grid-like design, it interweaves ceramics with landscape, inviting climbing plants to grow along walls and opening a dialogue between architecture and nature. Adagio Outdoor comes in a matte finish in four natural tones: White, Chalk, Earth, and Olive.

“Adagio Outdoor is a modular structure that invites plants to take over the wall, opening a dialogue between ceramic and nature.” (Ronan Bouroullec)

Finally, Motivo is inspired by traditional wooden wall panelling (boiserie), reinterpreted in ceramics with a contemporary approach. It is a modular system that both protects and defines surfaces, shaping space with subtlety and depth. Born from childhood memories of grandparents’ homes and the interiors of Scottish castles, Motivo is an act of care—a surface that interacts with light, enriching a space without overwhelming it. The collection is offered as a harmonious composition of elements, in six matte shades—White, Chalk, Limestone, Earth, Arctic, Graphite— plus one metallic finish, Silver.

“Motivo is a way to integrate ceramics into a room with delicacy, in perfect balance between function and beauty.” (Ronan Bouroullec)

Running in parallel, Coppie di Fatto e Altro is an exhibition dedicated to Nathalie Du Pasquier and her new Editions, first presented in Paris on 5 September at Librairie Yvon Lambert. The collection of handmade ceramic objects challenges both functional and formal conventions, bringing to life pairs of vases that complement, overturn, and transform one another, revealing a subtle irony and a joyful creative freedom.

Nathalie Du Pasquier’s practice, straddling art and design, follows a unique trajectory within Mutina’s projects, enriched by years of intense and prolific collaboration.

The September 2025 programme at Spazio Mutina thus becomes a celebration of the company’s identity: an open design laboratory where ceramics are a living material, capable of becoming language, vision, and possibility. A collective narrative, where art meets design and matter becomes poetry.
