German designer and researcher Hella Jongerius has transformed the interior space of Paris-based Lafayette Anticipations into a giant textile room. Interlace exhibition, inaugurated on June 7th, will be open to the public until September 8th.

The project revolves around the concept of textiles and weaving, developed through two specific areas: three-dimensional and digital weaving. By referring to the contemporary issue of textile waste, Jongerius aims at creating consciousness around it, with all the related cultural, social and economic implications, as well as re-evaluating fabrics.

The exhibition is distributed into two “Looms”. Inside the Space Loom, weft threads get shaped into spheres, three-dimensional woven volumes and patterns, whilst in the Seamless Loom the 3D weaving method is used to produce woven textile bricks that will be combined into a soft wall. Furthermore, the second floor hosts a high-tech loom that a selected group of designers will be invited to use for a personal research, thus trying to develop their weaving knowledge.
